Week of September 10

Reading begins with our names, and friends' names. This is a sweet book about a unique name and learning to love it.

Kindergarten children read their names (and some were already reading others' names, as well). We sorted names by beginning letter and then put the names in alphabetical order.

Then we made a 'name linking chart'.

And decorated names with stickers. I'm sure they are hanging in a special place in your home.

Literacy: connecting books about families to our own families.

Text to self connections :)

As we begin our work learning letter names and sounds, we will be reading loads of 'abc' books.

We are also collecting snap words (sight words) that we can read and write quickly. We keep our snap words hung on the word wall so they are easy to access.

'I' and 'am' are the first snap words we are working with. I have a collection of books that feature kindergarten snap words; and, children color in their own books that feature snap words.

Word wall. We are word collectors!
