We made weather vanes to test the direction of the wind.
Welcome to kindergarten! When you enter this classroom YOU ARE: respected, loved, listened to; YOU ARE explorers, big thinkers, problem solvers; YOU ARE authors, illustrators, readers, scientists, mathematicians, musicians, artists; YOU ARE kind, peaceful, respectful. YOU ARE THE REASON WE ARE HERE! This is our kindergarten journey...

Dissecting Lima Beans
We soaked Lima beans over night and were amazed at how much they expanded with water.

Persuasive Writing Unit
The overarching idea in this unit of writing is that pencils are like magic wands--we can change the world and make it better. In this unit I'm not so much teaching kindergarten kids HOW to write, I am teaching them WHY we write. It's an exciting time in kindergarten!!!!
First, we see a problem, think about what should be different and then we write about how to fix that problem. These are slides of the first several writing lessons in which I lay the foundation for how to write convincing signs, letters, lists, posters and books.
There are many ways to convince a reader to follow our ideas.
Thus far, we are focusing on problems in our classroom and school. This is a poster about no running in the halls.
We noticed garbage on school grounds the other day, so this writer compared a letter. "Please do not litter because it is bad for Mother Earth."
A poster: do not run, it is safer to walk.
A list....
A letter addressed to CCS.
I see people being loud in the halls. Or else you will distract learnin time.
Please stay tuned for more persuasive writing...we are making our school EVEN BETTER, one writing piece at a time.
